Should You Try to Sell Your Home Yourself?

When you decide to sell your home, your first instinct might be that you can do it yourself. After all, if you sell your home yourself, you don't have to worry about paying a commission and you can put more money in your pocket once the sale is final. Unfortunately, selling your home yourself can prove to be a big mistake. Here are some of the advantages to using a real estate agent to sell your house.

Saves You Time

You might not think so, but selling a home involves a lot of work. You have to list it, take pictures, post pictures, write a description, set up appointments and show the home, negotiate with the buyer's agent and much more. Real estate agents do all of this for you for a small commission. It is definitely worth the cost.

Agents Get You More Money

Since real estate agents know the ins and outs of selling a home, they can negotiate better with the agents for the buyers. This means they can usually get you more money for you home because they have a better idea of what your home will sell for. They have more knowledge about the current market values in your area and many more pieces of information that will determine the price of your home.

Some Agents Only Work with Agents

Due to legal issues and other possible problems, many of the buyer's agents will only work with other agents. This way they do not have to worry about lawsuits and other problems for not handling the transaction correctly or being accused of taking advantage of the seller.

Listing on MLS

The Multiple Listing Service is the single greatest advantage to having a real estate agent working for you. In order to list your home on MLS, a member has to be the one listing it. The MLS exposes your home to a larger number of potential buyers and agents.
